"Windybrow" Walk to Wayne historic mansion

Windybrow is oriented to capture optimal light and as the name suggests a freshening breeze. Renowned architect, Wilson Eyre , used the wide overhang of the roof to shade the upper floors from the high summer sun and allow the lower angled winter sun to illuminate the interior during the colder months.
Welcoming guests is the great chestnut Dutch door under a protective portico. Grained to mimic birds eye maple and now permanently joined to form a solid door the wide entrance invites you into a grand center hall foyer with a sitting room to the right and a ceiling that opens to a balcony and banister lined stair that cascades with a gentle fall and a landing equal to a wedding tradition of tossing the bouquet. All of the rooms on the first floor interconnect with two or three entrée accesses affording a wonderful entertainment flow.
Centrally located is the light filled music room with its¿ nine panel multi-light window and corner fireplace. To the east is a wonderful teak paneled living room with an antique carved floral fireplace imported from an Italian villa. French doors lead to the covered porch with massive pillar supports.
Turning back to the west the library now spans what was once two rooms looking out over the grass courtyard. Built-ins line two walls and a sunny bay window invites the reader to sit and indulge the turning page while another fireplace anchors the opposite corner.
Under the stairs and past the massive back hallway dutch door there is a powder room followed by the butler¿s pantry with floor to ceiling oaken cabinets ready to serve the formal dining room.
The second floor abounds with storage in hallway closets and 9 bedrooms, six in the main wing and 3 additional in the service wing. The master suite¿s two rooms have been combined into one large bedroom spanning the depth of the east wing while the dressing room of the suite has been separated by a closet to create a complete 14X15 bedroom on its¿ own.
The grounds retain a grotto garden, a large open lawn area, fenced pool, and the flat grass courtyard which used to be a formal English garden bounded by the two wings of the house.
